Familial Autism Spectrum Disorder : A clinical study from South Tunisia

Introduction Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a multifactorial neurodevelopmental disorder, with both contribution of genetic and non-genetic factors. A collaboration de novo mutations prenatal postnatal environmental factors are likely to play role. ASD can be syndromic or non-syndromic. The etiology non-syndromic still relatively undefined due its heterogeneity. Contrary ASD, often associated chromosomal abnormalities monogenic alterations. Familial cases support the strong component ASD. Objectives To collect clinical arguments supporting cause autism spectrum disorder. Methods We present study familial families were recruited as part collaborative project between department Medical Genetic Child Psychiatry in Hedi Chaker Hospital, Sfax, Tunisia. paraclinical data collected retrospectively. Results Our included 11 unrelated from southern Tunisia, each two children, among them four couples twins. Most (80%) consanguineous belonging middle socioeconomic class. None parents suffered psychiatric disorder history was reported one family. Perinatal history, including advanced maternal paternal age, fetal suffering and/or gestational problems, found 35% cases. average age 9.89 ± 3.787 (3 17 years) balanced sex-ratio. seven out families: facial dysmorphism half (6/11 families) another comorbidity 25% (celiac disease, congenital heart disease idiopathic hydrocephaly). other(s) disorder(s) all children. (14/22) had delayed psychomotor development intellectual disability various degrees. Epilepsy identified three families. Other behavioral problem 65% When neurodevelopmental(s) disorder(s), this points more towards origin. Conclusions highlights interest investigations determine risk identification would contribute not only better understand pathological processes but also provide an appropriate counseling.
